The Importance of Understanding the Reasons Behind Offender’s Motives

Last week, reports circled my tiny twin-island Federation of a chillingly double murder. Guns can allow for quite the distance between victim and perpetrator but not so with chop wounds as reported.

Many people don’t want to know “why” this happened because they argue that there’s no justifying it. Many will express an interest in the “motive” and will likely judge it. Understanding why is imperative to preventing these incidents from recurring. While motives may sound alike, the reason two people hold the same view (which justifies their actions, in their mind) can be very different.

It’s important to understand these various pathways to gruesome outcomes such as these. That’s the best thing we can do to reduce the chance of future occurrences.
